SERI KEMBANGAN: The Top Fives of the 16 award categories of Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 2009 (ABPBH 2009) are set to see stiff competition.
This is especially so in the Popular New Artiste (Male and Female) and Popular TV Actor and Actress categories.
These categories are dominated by new faces in show business and most are first-time nominees.
They include stars of the popular, religious-themed drama series Nur Kasih Fizz Fairuz, Remy Ishak and Tiz Zaqyah, singer-songwriter Yuna and reality television graduates Akim Ahmad, Hafiz Suip and Hanifah "Black" Hanafiah.
For the first time, top actor Rosyam Nor is not in the running for any category.
The five finalists of each category were revealed at a press conference at The Palace Of Golden Horses Hotel here yesterday by Berita Harian group editor Datuk Mior Kamarul Shahid.
The awards, in its 23rd year, will be held at Genting Highlands on April 4.
The Most Popular Artiste will win a Nissan X-Trail 2.0L worth RM130,000, Empire Classics Furniture worth RM30,000 and a three-day and two-night stay in the Head of State Suite of the hotel.
The winners of each category will receive various prizes, such as RM5,000 worth of Empire Classics Furniture and Palace Lifestyle Membership Cards from the hotel.
There will also be special prizes for readers who make the best predictions.
The winner will receive a Nissan Grand Livina 1.6A worth RM86,000, a Naza Blade 250 motorcycle, RM10,000 in Empire Classic Furniture, a six-day, four-night holiday in South Korea from Poto Travel And Tours and a Slimming Sanctuary beauty treatment package among others.
Berita Harian is also organising the Gemilang Bersama Bintang contest for readers and winners have a chance to attend the awards and meet their favourite stars at the red carpet.
The nominees will meet fans at the ABPBH 2009 roadshow at Village Mall, Sungai Petani (March 5 and 6), Mesra Mall, Kemasek, Terengganu (March 12 and 13), Plaza Angsana, Johor Baru (March 20 and 21) and Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka Megamall, Malacca (March 27 and 28).
The Bintang Idola Berita Harian talent search contest will be held during the roadshow, to give a chance for fans to display their singing talents and win a chance to perform alongside established stars in the awards.
